5+5 at Williams 5.

For these 10 works, I was inspired by the atmosphere, light, and reflections within Williams Five. I utilized architectural themes along with my perception of these phenomenological events in the spaces.

In a way, these works try to merge into the space from which they were inspired - a kind of reflecting and reflected parallel (like a mirror reflecting a mirror). The use of white along with a narrow pallet is intended to collect spectrum colors into the works. I was also focused on my own perceptions and realizations.

Further, the compositions on 4 of the large 36”x60” works were made using a chalk line by my husband, Eric. This forms a collaboration between architectural line and paint stroke.

On the Creative Spirit & “Pacific”
The creative spirit often comes to me when I am provoked by nature. In my work, I am also influenced by music and many other forms of the arts, as well as by personal experience and memory. Positivity and an energy from creative delirium are the conditions in which I paint.

My first time to the Pacific Ocean was this winter. It was cold and beautiful. The depth of the atmosphere here - an infinite horizon and space - surrounded and touched me. Water and sky-azure fused from two streams.

When you contemplate the horizon, your sense-organs are liberated and your heart and soul go flying over this expanse tract. Your soul becomes one with the ocean. This is peace, this is calm. These were my feelings when I saw the ocean for the first time. Beautiful and tremendous. Inspiration for one humble soul.

I will be showing some of my new work in a group exhibition at Westminster Church - 1624 NE Hancock Street, Portland OR.
